The present invention generallyprovides multifocal ophthalmic lenses, e.g., multifocalintraocular lenses, that employ a central refractiveregion for providing a refractive focusingpower and a diffractive region for providingdiffractive focusing powers. The refractive focusingpower provided by the lens's central regioncorresponds to a far-focusing power that issubstantially equal to one of the diffractive focusingpowers while the other diffractive power correspondsto a near-focusing power. The far-focusingpower can be enhanced by changes to thephase of the central refractive region and/orchanges to the curvature of the central refractiveregion.
