A surgical retrieval apparatus (10), comprising a housing (100) defining a longitudinal axis and inducing an elongated sleeve (120) extending distally therefrom, the housing and the elongated sleeve cooperating to define a lumen (122) extending longitudinally therethrough a shaft (200) having an end effector assembly (220) disposed at a distal end thereof and a plunger (260) disposed at a proximal end thereof, the shaft selectively translatable between a first position, wherein the end effector assembly is disposed within the elongated sleeve (120), and a second position, where the end effector assembly extends distally from the elongated sleeve a specimen retrieval bag (30) releasably coupled to the end effector assembly (220), the specimen retrieval bag deployable from an undeployed position to an extended position upon movement of the end effector assembly from the first position to the second position, the specimen retrieval bag including a cinch cord (230) disposed about an open end thereof, the retrieval bag including a channel (45) extending longitudinally therein for evacuation of air.
