Compositions comprising L-tryptophan and/or 5-hydroxytryptophan are usedfor preparing a product suitable for sublingual or nasal administration whichis helpful in suppressing appetite in such a manner as to promote weight loss inan individual； such compositions furthermore exhibit an antidepressant activityand an antiasthenic effect which makes them helpful in improving tone and moodand the level of attention in an individual. The compositions preferably comprisephenylethylamine in a synergistic combination which substance is containedin an algal plant extract, preferably of Klamath algae.
