PURPOSE: A composition for protecting liver and improving liver functions is provided to prevent damages to liver, and to promote the restoration of liver cells. CONSTITUTION: A composition for protecting liver and improving liver functions contains a milk thistle extract, S-adenosylmethionine, and non-essential amino acid. The non-essential amino acid is selected from alanine, aspartic acid, glutamic acid, glycine, proline, arginine, cysteine, tyrosine, and serine. The milk thistle extract is extracted by using water, ethanol, or a mixture thereof.
