A biocidal composition for controlling microorganisms in aqueous and water-containing systems, including 2,2-dibromomalonamide and a surface-active biocide selected from the group consisting of C-C-alkyl dimethylbenzylammonium chloride, dioctyldimethylammonium chloride, polyhexamethylene dihuanide dimethyl dimethyl chloride. 2. The composition according to claim 1, in which the ratio of the mass of 2,2-dibromomalonamide to the mass of surface-active biocide is between about 100: 1 and about 1: 100.3. The composition according to claim 1, wherein the surface-active biocide is alkyldimethylbenzylammonium chloride and the weight ratio of 2,2-dibromo-malonamide to the mass of alkyldimethylbenzylammonium chloride is from about 32: 1 to about 2: 1.4. The composition according to claim 1, wherein the surface-active biocide is dioctyldimethylbenzylammonium chloride and the ratio of the mass of 2,2-dibromomalomonamide to the mass of dioctyldimethylbenzylammonium chloride is from about 9: 1 to about 1: 3.5. The composition according to claim 1, wherein the surface-active biocide is polyhexamethylene biguanide, and the weight ratio of 2,2-dibromo-malonamide to the weight of polyhexamethylene biguanide is from about 8: 1 to about 2: 1.6. The composition according to claim 1, wherein the surface-active biocide is dodecylguanidine hydrochloride, and the weight ratio of 2,2-dibromo-malonamide to the weight of dodecylguanidine hydrochloride is from about 1: 1 to about 1: 16.7.
