The present invention relates to a novel method of extraction of non-ionic surfactants adsorbed on the surface of biodegradable polymeric nanoparticles and/or micro particles. The present extraction process is devoid of any degradation product and is capable of retrieving the adsorbed surfactant completely from the surface of the biodegradable nanoparticles for its quantification. The invention is useful in understanding the fundamental phenomenon of adsorption of surfactant on colloidal particles, stability of colloidal particles, the identification and the quantification of adsorbed surfactant and the probable mechanism of adsorption, determination of effective crossing and transit through the blood brain barrier.
