A self-propelled forage harvester (1) has a sharpening device (20) that is assigned to a chopper drum (12) and is drivable through a drive (24) for sharpening the chopping blades (11). The sharpening procedure for sharpening the chopper drum is activated when the forage harvester is in a non-working mode. The headland management system automatically activates the sharpening procedure while the forage harvester travels across the headland and/or the end of the field.
