Cosmetic active ingredient obtained from fibers of Panicum miliaceum, comprises carbohydrates. Independent claims are included for: (1) preparing the active ingredient comprising solubilizing fiber powder of Panicum miliaceum in water, enzymatically hydrolyzing with at least one carbohydrase, separating soluble and insoluble phases, deactivating the enzyme and filtering the obtained phases； and (2) a cosmetic composition comprising 0.01-20 wt.% of the active ingredient. ACTIVITY : Dermatological. MECHANISM OF ACTION : Glucose ceramide synthase stimulator； Serine palmitoyltransferase stimulator； Fatty acid synthase stimulator； ATP-binding cassette sub-family A member 12 stimulator； beta -Glucocerebrosidase stimulator. The ability of the active ingredient (comprising carbohydrates at concentration of 0.5%) to stimulate the expression of fatty acid synthase enzyme was tested in normal human keratinocytes. The result showed that the active ingredient stimulated the expression of the enzyme of 27%.
