An injection device comprises a locking mechanism (171a, 171b) between a syringecarrier (128) and an end cap (111) of the injection device. The cap is formed insuch a way to inhibit movement of the syringe carrier and syringe towards an exitaperture of the injection device when the cap is located in its closed positionon the injection device. A needle shield (123) located on the needle of the syringeis removed by rotating the cap whilst the locking mechanism remains engaged. On removal of the cap, the locking mechanism is no longer so engaged and the syringeand syringe carrier can move towards the exit aperture. This assists in preventingdamage to the syringe prior to actuation of the injection device.
