PURPOSE: A cosmetic composition containing a thin film coat extract of smooth loofah seeds for skin whitening is provided to largely reduce the melanocytes survival rate and to suppress tyrosinase activity in melanocytes. CONSTITUTION: A cosmetic composition for skin whitening contains 0.0001-15 wt% of a thin film coat extract of smooth loofah seeds as an active ingredient. The composition is manufactured in the form of a skin softener, a lotion, a nutrition cream, a massage cream, an eye cream, a cleansing cream, a cleansing foam, a cleansing water, a pack, a spray, or powder. A method for preparing the extract comprises a step of peeling a white part which covers the seeds； a step of adding distilled water and heating at 50-70 deg.C. for 1-3 hours； a step of removing moisture from the thin film coat and pulverizing； a step of adding distilled water to the pulverized thin film coat and filtering； and a step of freeze-drying.
