Various embodiments of a cartridge for loading a suture onto a suture instrument are disclosed, and in some embodiments, a cartridge for loading a pre-knot knot formed from the suture onto the suture instrument is disclosed. The suturing instrument is typically of the type having a suture threading member that defines a suture receiving passage therein. The cartridge can be operable to load a suture and / or knot onto a suturing instrument at the point of use. In some embodiments, the cartridge defines a path for inserting and withdrawing the suturing instrument from the cartridge. The cartridge further comprises a seat that releasably holds a portion of the suture, and a mechanism for transferring the suture from the seat to the suturing instrument, and various features of the cartridge are described herein.
