According to the invention, the at least one first surface groove (10, 12) and the at least one second surface groove (14, 16) cross along their path between a proximal end (8) and a distal end (6) of the body (4). The tampon (2) according to the invention has an increased capacity for liquid absorption, while at the same time excessive swelling of the tampon (2) is avoided.
