<；P>；PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an agent for improving sugar and lipid metabolism, a method for screening a substance effective for the improvement of sugar and lipid metabolism, a non-human transgenic animal useful in the screening method, and a fat tissue or a fat cell derived from the non-human transgenic animal. <；P>；SOLUTION: The invention provides an agent for improving sugar and lipid metabolic ability (especially an agent for ameliorating a fat state), containing known membrane protein OL16 called also as ACAM (Adipocyte adhesion molecule) and expressing in a white fat cell or a substance to promote the expression of OL16 as an active component； a method for assaying sugar and lipid metabolic ability by using the expression quantity of OL16 or OL16 gene as an index； a non-human transgenic animal (especially a model animal of antiobesic or antidiabetic state) having a fat cell-specifically introduced OL16 gene； and a fat tissue or a fat cell derived from the non-human transgenic animal. <；P>；COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
