The invention discloses designs and processes for manufacture of biodegradable pads for cosmetic or hygiene purposes. The invention includes pads with projections formed on the surface or with edge closure without the use of any additives such as polymers or other constituents. Multiple layers of sheets including spun fiber are aggregated to form cotton discs. Processing to set the projections on the discs or to set the edge closure includes use of pressure, temperature or humidity conditions to effect the setting. The edge closure is achieved by making either continuous or discrete impressions at intervals on the circumference of the cotton disc. The cotton discs thus manufactured are soft, ecofriendly and gentle on the skin and are intended for exfoliation purposes. Discs with continuous edge closure are used in nail polish remover applications whereas those with edge closure at intervals are intended for eye liner applications.
