Systems and methods are provided for processing medical images to plan or guide orthopedic surgeries, to design implants for use in orthodontic surgeries, or to generate information that is generally useful in assessing the bone structure of a subject. Medical images may include x-ray images such as images acquired with a computerized tomography (" CT ") system, magnetic resonance images such as images acquired with a magnetic resonance imaging (" MRI ") system, May be ultrasound images, such as images obtained with the ultrasound system.
