Numerous other functions of the system are included, such as the function designed to detect and notify, visually or through the software, the correct positioning of a cage in the shelf.La présente invention concerne un système permettant de détecter automatiquement la présence d'une cage ou d'un plateau permettant de maintenir des animaux de laboratoire dans une position spécifique d'une étagère d'installation, ainsi qu'un procédé permettant de gérer des données relatives à la cage, ledit procédé étant mis en œuvre au moyen dudit système, l'invention étant particulièrement avantageuse pour le technicien de laboratoire. La présente invention concerne en particulier un système (1) composé d'une étagère (20) comprenant une pluralité de dispositifs (23) conçus pour détecter la position dans l'installation et l'identifiant d'une cage (30), une unité de commande centrale (73) conçue pour traiter, par le biais d'un logiciel, les informations reçues afin d'offrir à l'opérateur la possibilité d'assurer le suivi et la gestion, au moyen d'une base de données, de l'ensemble de l'installation.
