The present invention relates to a superabsorbent copolymer comprising the reaction product of a reactive fluorescent brightener comonomer. In another embodiment, the superabsorbent copolymer comprises the reaction product of a first monomer and a reactive fluorescent brightener comonomer. The reactive fluorescent brightener comonomers are selected from the various pyrene fluorescent brighteners listed herein.
