The present invention offers a relatively inexpensive, rapid, easy-to-adopt and non-invasive method and system, based on high voltage spark spectroscopy, for quantitaiive analysis of the human exhaled breath (air). The invention relates to a method and system that reduces the cost of unnecessary laboratory tests, eliminates the wait for test reports and facilitates delay-free assessment of diseases aiming rapid action and treatment plans for quick recovery from diseases. The apparatus includes an evacuated tube containing the exhaled breath sample, a high voltage source, a light guide, monochromator, an optical sensor and a computational device. The invention showed a satisfactory performance when tested with healthy subjects and patients suffering from diabetes and colon related diseases. The device could successfully discriminate the health disorder of the subjects. The apparatus is used to identify and severity of many other diseases as well. The invention advocates point-of-care diagnosis at the physicians office, an ambulance, the home, the field, or in the hospital. This invention states four (04) claims.
