The guide wire for bag loading and insertion of the percutaneous pump attached to the cannula is made of a first material and includes a proximal section with a first diameter, a round proximal end and a distal end. The guide wire is comprised of a second material and includes a distal section having a second diameter greater than the first diameter, a distal end, and a proximal end adjacent the distal end of the proximal section. The first material of the proximal section is selected to be ductile than the material of the percutaneous pump to reduce damage to the pump during back loading.
