The present invention relates to a process for preparing amorphous aluminum hydroxyphosphate. The aluminum salt and phosphate solution are co-mixed in a constant ratio in the presence of a buffer. Preferably, excess phosphate solution is used to act as a buffer. Due to the presence of the buffer, the pH remains constant during the reaction (after initial rapid equilibration) without active adjustment. The method is particularly applicable for large scale production of aluminum phosphate adjuvant.
