The present invention relates to novel designer bone morphogenetic proteins with altered affinity for the cognate receptors, nucleic acids encoding them, and methods of use thereof. More preferably, the novel designer osteogenic protein is a designer BMP and has a modified affinity for the cognate BMP receptor.
