The present invention relates to a composition for treating smooth muscle cell proliferative diseases, a diagnostic composition, and a method for detecting a diagnostic marker and, more specifically, to a composition for treating smooth muscle cell proliferative diseases containing, as an active ingredient, a recombinant expression vector containing a polynucleotide coding FGF12 or FGF12 protein or a fragment thereof, to a composition for diagnosing smooth muscle cell proliferative diseases containing an agent for measuring the expression level of FGF12 mRNA or FGF12 protein, and to a method for detecting a marker of smooth muscle cell proliferative diseases using the same. The composition containing a polynucleotide coding FGF12 of the present invention overexpresses FGF12, and thus can effectively suppress the proliferation of smooth muscle cells, and the composition containing FGF12 protein or a fragment thereof can also be expected to have similar effects, and thus allows the development of an effective gene or protein treatment agent for preventing or treating smooth muscle cell proliferative diseases.
