PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a block having high water retentivity, which has the water retention volume larger than that of the water-retentive block stipulated by JIS A 5371 and to provide a method for producing the block having high water retentivity and large water retention volume.SOLUTION: The block having high water retentivity is produced from concrete. The concrete contains water, normal Portland cement, a chemical admixture and fine aggregate. The fine aggregate contains soft blast furnace slag. The void volume of the concrete is 280-350 L/mand the water/cement ratio of the concrete is 14-30%.
