The invention relates to an orthosis for supporting a joint, adapted to the thumb or the wrist, and comprising: a main component (20) in the form of a sleeve made of elastic material and adapted to envelop the joint and distal and proximal limb parts on either side of the joint, an elastically deformable panel (22a, 22b) housed in a pocket formed in the main component, and a non-elastic tightening device (25) for tightening the main component and a proximal part of the panel around the proximal limb part, the panel being configured such that, over at least 50% of the length of the main component along the limb parts, including a limb part covered by the tightening device, the panel has a portion occupying more than 30% of the perimeter of the limb situated underneath, the panel having a rigidity defined by a Young's modulus of between 5 and 10 MPa, while the material forming the main part has a rigidity of a lower order of magnitude.
