A storage container 1 for a medical device 2 (e.g. an endoscope) comprises a rigid enclosure 3 having an opening configured to receive a medical device for storage, a closure member 20 configured to close and seal the opening of the enclosure and an outlet valve 24 arranged to enable air to be drawn from the enclosure to create a low oxygen vacuum environment therein and to seal the enclosure to maintain said vacuum while the medical device is stored therein. A release inlet valve may be provided to selectively permit air flow into the container to release the vacuum and a pressure sensor (not shown) to detect pressure within the chamber. A passive RFID tag may be mounted to the pressure sensor for transmitting data indicative of the detected pressure to a remote RFID reader.
