PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing silica-based particles having an ultraviolet shielding effect, to provide silica-based particles having an ultraviolet shielding effect, obtained by the method, and to provide a cosmetic obtained by blending the silica-based particles.SOLUTION: The method for producing a silica-based particles having an ultraviolet shielding effect includes: impregnating porous silica-based particles having specific physical properties with a metal salt aqueous solution containing a metal element having an ultraviolet shielding effect then heating the obtained silica-based particles to deposit and fix hydroxide or oxide of the metal element in pores and further repeating the impregnation operation and the heating operation to deposit and fix a predetermined amount of the hydroxide and/or oxide of the metal element in the pores of the silica-based particles.
