593694 Disclosed is the use of beclomethasone dipropionate, beclomethasone-17-monopropionate or 21-beclomethasone monopropionate in the manufacture of a medicament for treating the severity of cellular and tissue damage due to epithelial cytotoxicity in a subject who has been exposed to a damaging amount of radiation or chemotherapeutics agents, wherein the medicament is for use in a method comprising administering beclomethasone dipropionate to the gastrointestinal tract of the patient. The medicament can be used for ameliorating or treating damage to the gastrointestinal tract of a patient wherein the damage is a result of the patients exposure to chemotherapy and/or radiation. The medicament can comprise other agents. The medicament can be topical such as an enema or in an oral dosage that releases the compound in the gut lumen.
