A process is described for the preparation of arylpyridine compounds by aryl-aryl cross-coupling reactions between a halopyridine and an arylmagnesium halide carried out in the presence of a catalytic amount of a zinc salt and a catalytic amount of palladium complex with a bidentate phosphine. The zinc salt is preferably selected from ZnCl 2 , ZnBr 2 and/or Zn(OAc)2 , while the palladium complex with a bidentate phosphine is preferably selected from the group of (1,2-Bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane)palladium(II) chloride, (1,3-Bis(diphenylphosphino)propane) palladium(II) chloride and (1,4-Bis(diphenylphosphino)butane)palladium(II) chloride. Most preferred is (1,2-Bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane)palladium(II) chloride. It is thus possible to obtain molar yields higher than 95% calculated on the arylmagnesium halide and a catalyticity less than 1:1500. The process is particularly suitable for the preparation of 4-(2-pyridyl)benzaldehyde which can then effectively been converted to Nl-(t-butoxycarbonyl)-N2-(4-(2pyridyl)benzyl)hydrazine.촉매적 양의 아연 염과 촉매적 양의 바이덴테이트 포스핀을 갖는 팔라듐 복합체의 존재 하에 할로피리딘과 아릴마그네슘 할라이드를 아릴-아릴 크로스-커플링 반응시킴으로써 아릴피리딘의 제조하는 방법에 대한 것이다. 상기 아연 염은 바람직하게는 ZnCl2, ZnBr2 및/또는 Zn(OAc)2 로부터 선택되고, 상기 바이덴테이트 포스핀을 갖는 팔라듐 복합체는 바람직하게 (1,2-비스(디페닐포스피노)에탄)팔라듐(II) 클로라이드, (1,3-비스(디페닐포스피노)프로판)팔라듐(II) 클로라이드 및 (1,4-비스(디페닐포스피노)부탄)팔라듐(II) 클로라이드로 이루어진 그룹으로부터 선택된다. 가장 바람직한 것은 (1,2-비스(디페닐포스피노)에탄)팔라듐(II) 클로라이드이다. 이에 의해, 상기 아릴마그네슘 할라이드에 대해 계산된 95% 이상의 몰 수율 및 1:1500 이하의 촉매성을 얻는 것이 가능하다. 특히 상기 공정은 효과적으로 N1-(t-부톡시카르보닐)-N2-[4-(2-피리딜)벤질]히드라진로 전환될 수 있는 4-(2-피리딜)벤즈알데히드의 제조에 적합하다.
