A composite material for drug delivery, comprising: a plurality of microparticles dispersed in a medium, the microparticles comprising: a drug; and a coating containing biodegradable material or biodegradable material; where the composition of the medium contains a drug dispersed in the depot forming material; and where the composition of the medium is in liquid form before administration and is configured to significantly increase the viscosity during or after injection into the mammal so that the form of the medium after injection is solid or gel. 2. A method for treating an ocular disease or injury, comprising injecting a composite material for delivering a medicament according to claim 1 into the eye of a mammal, if necessary. A method according to claim 2, characterized in that a single injection of the composite material of the drug provides a therapeutically effective amount of the drug from about 3 months to about 12 months. The method according to any one of paragraphs. 2-3, characterized in that the ocular disease is macular degeneration or diabetic retinopathy. 5.
