The implant (1) has upper (2) and lower (3) parts with support surfaces (5,13) for adjacent vertebrae. Blind hole bores (20-23) are arranged on the parts and can each be accessed from one side of the implant by a handling tool. The two parts each have projections (10,16,17) or recessed sections (9,19), which face the other part and are laterally offset, so that they engage each other as the upper part approaches the lower part. The bores are arranged in the projections and lie adjacent and at least partly overlapping in the direction of the implant height.
