The described invention provides compositions and methods for treating or preventing adhesions in a subject in need thereof, the method comprising the step of (a) administering an adhesion-reducing amount of a composition comprising a polypeptide having the amino acid sequence YARAAARQ ARAKALARQLGV AA [SEQ ID NO: 1] or a functional equivalent thereof and a carrier.
