PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small diameter inlay for correcting vision impairments by altering the shape of the anterior corneal surface.SOLUTION: An inlay 210 having a diameter smaller than the pupil is provided for correcting presbyopia. To provide near vision, the inlay is implanted centrally in a cornea to induce an "effective" zone on the anterior corneal surface, within which diopter power is increased. Distance vision is provided by a region of the cornea 245 peripheral to the "effective" zone. In another embodiment, a small diameter inlay that induces an effective optical zone on the anterior surface of a cornea 205 much larger in diameter than the inlay is provided.
