PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an X-ray image diagnosis apparatus capable of processing gradation of a chest X-ray image by detecting a lung-field area correctly.SOLUTION: An image processing unit of an X-ray image diagnosis apparatus includes a lung-field area extraction unit for extracting a lung-field area 615 by using image data (original image data) 600 created from transmitted X-ray data, and a gradation conversion unit for converting gradation of the X-ray image by using a pixel value in the lung-field area 615. The lung-field area extraction unit includes a threshold processing unit for extracting an area having a value greater than a threshold by using the threshold, and a maximum width area detection unit for detecting an area having the maximum area width as a lung-field area LG from image data of the lung-field area extracted by the threshold processing unit.
