The present invention relates to a herbal formulation for the treatment of retention of placenta. The herbal formulation according to present invention is prepared by using leaves of Heterophragma roxburghii DC, Mimosa pudica, Bamboosa bamboo and Saccharum officinale. The herbal composition used in present invention provides relief to animals without any side effect. The present invention provides an effective and low cost method for treatment of retention of placenta.
