Aphthous ulcers and premalignant lesions are very common among the Indian population due to widespread tobacco usage and nutritional deficiencies. The utilization of medicinal plant for preparing drugs has attracted many pharmacological companies as these drugs have more potent pharmacological activities, exhibit lower toxicities and are economically more viable1. This has led to the era of development of new drugs from these indigenous medicinal plants. Apart from the antimicrobial properties presence of antioxidant properties has kindled new interests in the development of these plant based products on premalignant lesions and conditions of the oral cavity. Leucas aspera is one of the ideal plant to manufacture an all-purpose oral care product due to its unique properties. The extracts from the plant can be used to prepare mouth wash and mouth paints for topical purposes as evidenced from available studies.
