In one embodiment, a portable wavefront aberrometer comprises a housing having a proximal end and a distal end, wherein an aperture is formed in the housing at the proximal end an activatable light source a light detector and optical components housed within the housing, the optical components comprising a microlens array, a plurality of lenses, one or more reflectors, and one or more beam splitters, wherein the optical components are arranged to define a first light path and a second light path.
