#$%^&*AU2016202906B220170907.pdf#####ABSTRACT The present application relates to means for collecting personal health data, in particular to a personal hand-held monitor (hereafter "a PHHM") comprising a signal acquisition device for acquiring signals which can be used to derive one or more measurements of parameters related to the health of a user, the signal acquisition device being integrated with a personal hand-held computing device (hereafter "a PHHCD"). The PHHM uses the processor of the PHHCD to control and analyse signals received from the signal acquisition device. The present application also relates to a signal acquisition device adapted to be integrated with such a PHHCD and to systems for operating the PHHM and for handling the signals acquired by the signal acquisition device. The present application further relates to a system for analysing, storing and transmitting signals acquired by the PHHM via the Internet or for regulating the uses to which the data derived from those signals may be put. A PHHM comprises a signal acquisition device (4) for acquiring signals which can be used to derive a measurement of a parameter related to the health of the user, the signal acquisition device being integrated with the PHHCD, wherein the parameter is blood pressure and the signal acquisition device comprises a blood flow occlusion means (21) adapted to be pressed against one side only of a body part or to have one side only of a body part pressed against it, a means (4) for measuring the pressure applied by or to the body part, and a means for detecting the flow of blood through the body part in contact with the blood flow occlusion means.
