PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drowsiness detection method and drowsiness detector having a high real-time drowsiness detection performance, being easily mounted on a vehicle and further highly accurately detecting drowsiness of a driver.SOLUTION: The drowsiness detection method and drowsiness detector include: acquiring RRI (RR Interval) data or intervals of adjacent R waves in an electrocardiographic waveform when a driver awakens constructing a data set for HRV (Heart Rate Variation) analysis for analyzing heart rate variations on the basis of the acquired RRI data calculating an HRV index of each data set to acquire awakening-time HRV index data and constructing a drowsiness detection model for each driver using a multivariate statistical process control (MSPC) on the basis of a standardized awakening-time HRV index data.
