An example method comprises: identifying a field boundary (1805); determining plot dimensions based on a first user input, said first user input selected from a group comprising one of a desired plot dimension and a desired fraction of acreage to be placed in plots (1850); determining a first plurality of plots (1850) within valid plot placement regions (1830) based on a second user input, said first plurality of plots (1850) satisfying a second placement rule, said second placement rule capable of being satisfied by multiple alternative pluralities of plots (1850); determining a second plurality of plots (1850) within said valid plot placement regions (1830) based on said second user input, said second plurality of plots satisfying said second placement rule; a user selecting one of said first plurality of plots (1850) and said second plurality of plots (1850) as a selected plurality of plots; and generating a prescription map including said selected plurality of plots (1850).
