PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a blood pressure measuring apparatus and method which can prevent the worsening of S/N ratio attributed to pulse wave components generated at a cuff upstream part in the measurement of systolic blood pressures and also achieves a smaller size by eliminating a buffer tank for smaller size using an acoustic impedance device provided in a bypass passage.SOLUTION: The blood pressure measuring apparatus has a blood pressure cuff body 1 made up of a cuff member 2, an air bag 8 for blocking blood which presses a blood pressure measuring site as a whole, a sub air bag 9 for pressing the side of the heart and an air bag 10 for detecting pulse waves which presses the side of the arterial periphery and pressure adjustors 26 and 27 to be connected respectively through the first and second piping 6 and 7.
