The invention concerns a method for counting aquatic species passing through a container (1, 2, 3) provided with a camera (7) having a field of view, said method comprising a step of acquiring images originating from said camera, and a measurement step during which the objects appearing on an image are measured. The method is remarkable in that it further comprises a marking step in order to associate each object with the length of same, a monitoring step for monitoring the progress of an object in said container by means of successive images, a counting step for incrementing a counter by one unit when an object has left the field of the camera (7), or in other words when it no longer appears on the current image.Linvention concerne un procédé de comptage despèces aquatiques traversant un caisson (1, 2, 3) muni dune caméra (7) pourvue dun champ de vision, procédé qui comprend une étape dacquisition dimages en provenance de ladite caméra, ainsi quune étape de mesure durant laquelle les objets figurant sur une image sont mesurés. Le procédé est remarquable en ce quil comprend de plus une étape de repérage pour associer chaque objet à sa longueur, une étape de suivi pour suivre la progression dun objet dans ledit caisson au moyen dimages successives, une étape de comptage pour incrémenter un compteur dune unité lorsquun objet a quitté le champ de la caméra (7), autrement dit lorsquil napparaît plus sur limage courante.
