A surgical assistance device for holding and positioning a patient's limb or instrument during a surgical procedure. The device consists of adjustable structural components housing separate hydraulic systems used for locking and unlocking the structural device. The structural component includes three lockable joints and two rigid support arms. Each joint houses a hydraulic piston and lock ring. Hydraulic pressure is supplied to the joint by an electric motor and pump and controlled by electrical circuits, pressure sensors and valves. When hydraulic pressure is applied, the piston is activated and the joint is locked. It is also possible to release the hydraulic pressure and unlock the joint through the user control circuit. The structural components also include universal rail clamps for attaching the device to the support structure, and a distal quick coupling for attachment of accessory devices.
