A post raising apparatus comprises a support frame 1 having a rear portion 9 extending upwardly from a base 5. A lifting arm 37 for attaching to the post is pivotally connected to the rear portion and is moved from a lowered to raised position by an actuator 51. The frame may be provided with wheels 3 attached to the base portion. The rear portion may be telescopic and may be provided with a hand grip portion 17. The arm may be provided with a post guide 41 that may be attached to one or more positions along the length of the post. The guide may be attached to the post by flexible connectors such as chains and cables. The actuator may be a hydraulic ram extending between the base portion and the arm. The ram may be provided with fluid by a pump operated manually or by a motor or engine.
