The present invention relates to a process for preparing solid oral modified-release composition comprising oxcarbazepine or salts thereof. In particular, the present invention relates to a process for preparing the solid oral modified-release compositions comprising a core of oxcarbazepine or salts thereof coated with a functional coating. Preferably, the composition comprising a core coated with a functional coating comprising one or more rate-controlling excipients having pH-dependent solubility, wherein the core is devoid of excipients having pH dependent solubility. The invention further provides a method of treatment of epileptic seizures.
