A gas measuring element 28, such as a carbon dioxide measuring element in the case of a capnograph, is configured to measure at least one respiratory gas component, such as carbon dioxide. The pump 20 is connected to draw breathing gas through the gas measuring element. The pressure gauge 30 is connected to measure the pressure in the air flow path including the gas measuring element and the pump.
