An infusion device, method, and system for drug delivery are provided. A primary container for storing a drug, the primary container having a stopper movably disposed therein for dispensing the drug； and a plunger 148 for acting on the stopper. The injection drive mechanism 140, which includes an energy source that exerts a force on the plunger to cause the plunger to act on the stopper to discharge the drug, accelerates the plunger to a certain speed before acting on the stopper, and to the stopper. A dampening mechanism for reducing the velocity of the plunger prior to actuation. The damping mechanism may include a dashpot 172 or energy absorbing material associated with the plunger. Alternatively, or in addition, the damping mechanism may include an absorbent material disposed between the support member of the outer casing of the injection device and the primary container.
