A broken heart shaped urn 1 having an upper chamber 5 for storing the ashes of the deceased with a curved outer surface 8 forming half a heart shape, a lower portion of the curved outer surface having an opening for insertion of the ashes 19, a jagged inner surface 9, vertical front and rear walls 10, 11 and a removable cover plate 12 for closing the opening, and a lower chamber 2 for storing the ashes of the deceased, the lower chamber having front and rear vertical walls 14,15, a vertical outer and inner surface 16,17, a horizontal upper surface 18, an open bottom for insertion of the ashes of the deceased and a removable cover plate 3 for closing the open bottom, whereby the jagged inner surface of the upper chamber is placed adjacent to a complementary jagged surface of a second broken heart shaped urn to form a complementary fit. Optionally, the interior portion of the upper chamber may include a vertical dividing wall (20B, Fig 2), creating first and second sub-chambers.
