A medical tracking system comprising a reference object and at least two sensor devices which are independently maneuverable and can be positioned in a fixed position relative to targets, each sensor device comprising at least one camera for imaging the reference object, a control unit for calculating the position of the reference object relative to the sensor device and a transceiver for transmitting the relative position to another sensor device, at least one of the control units being configured to receive and combine the at least two sensor data of the at least two sensor devices in order to determine a relative position between at least two of the at least two sensor devices.
