A laparoscopic suturing instrument is provided. A laparoscopic suturing instrument can sew tissue at a surgical site with minimally invasive procedures by passing a suture needle back and forth between the jaws of a jaw assembly. The jaw assemblies may include a pivotable jaw member within each jaw for positioning the jaw assembly and needle in a low profile storage configuration that can be inserted into the small diameter surgical port.
