PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a practical bacteriostatic agent and a packed food and drink, exhibiting excellent bacteriostatic action on a spore-forming bacterium in a packed food and drink, for example, a spore-forming bacterium (particularly, the bacterium in spore state) having high heat resistance not-controlled by bactericidal treatment at 120°C for 4 minutes specified by Food Sanitation Act, at low cost and with no flavoring problem.SOLUTION: A bacteriostatic agent for a spore-forming bacterium (including the bacterium in spore state) having a fatty acid monoglyceride consisting monoglyceride palmitate and/or monoglyceride stearate, as an active ingredient, is provided. In addition, a bacteriostasis method of a spore-forming bacterium in a packed food and drink, where 300 ppm or more and 3000 ppm or less of a fatty acid monoglyceride consisting of monoglyceride palmitate and/or monoglyceride stearate are added to a manufacturing material in preparing the packed food and drink, is provided.
